Every so often a young talent breaks through into a Premier League matchday squad and lights up the game.

When it happens its always exciting to watch, and this weekend we were entertained by Billy Gilmour at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea made light work of Everton in the 4-0 win, with fellow youngster Mason Mount opening the scoring in the first half. Mount is a player to keep an eye on, but it was Gilmour who stole the show with a man of the match performance.

The Scottish 18-year-old showed great confidence and technique on the ball for such a young player, and was instrumental in Chelsea’s victory.

He’s a brilliant youngster with great vision when he has possession. He stays calm and seems to find the right passes. We see a lot of midfielders like that who will play it sideways or backwards when they’re on the ball. And that’s boring to watch!

I see a bit of Jody Morris’s character in him. He’s not the tallest player but does stand up for himself and jody was exactly the same. If he keeps improving just like all the young ones do at the moment at Chelsea he will certainly be one to keep an eye on.

It followed another man of the match performance in the FA Cup against Liverpool. His performances have created a lot of hype with some fans calling him the Scottish Xavi which is a huge title to live up to. But he had 93% passing accuracy against Everton, and those are the kind of stats you would associate with a player like Xavi.

He played with positivity too, always looking to go forward and start an attacking move, rather than playing it too safely. Chelsea’s transfer embargo has been a blessing in some ways as it has revealed the potential of some of the blues youngsters.

When it comes to the end of the season I always say and hope Frank will be focusing on keeping the great team spirit, by avoiding bringing in a big name that might change that.

But that said, he should be looking to recruit some more talent because it would bring the level higher and increase the competition for the starting XI even more. It’s about always aiming for bigger and better so the expectation stays at the high levels it should be. #mmlove
