It was possibly a tighter game than many anticipated in Istanbul, but as all great teams do Man City did what was needed to get over the line and lift the Champions League trophy to complete the treble. Rodri scored the only goal of the game to secure their fate as champions of Europe.

It was history-making night for Man City, and also for Pep Guardiola who became the first manager to win two trebles with two different teams, after he also achieved it with Barcelona in 2009. This set of Man City players will now be bonded for life, as that’s how rare and special it is to win a treble, only the second English team to do so.

Since arriving at the Etihad in 2016, Guardiola has now won five Premier League titles, lead a domestic treble in 2019 and also guided City to 100 points in the 2017-18 season. This treble is the latest achievement and arguably the best as any player or manager will tell you how hard that feat is.

There was a lot of pressure on Pep to perform, with himself saying you could not describe his time at City as legendary unless they won the Champions League.

Guardiola will go down in history as one of the greatest managers of all time and he has revolutionised the game in the past 15 years, with football evolving into style that he has been at the forefront of. Football always evolved so there will be new tactics and philosophies to come that will trump Guardiola’s style, but for now it looks like he and his City side are unstoppable. Much of the squad still have many years of playing together and its going to be interesting to watch it unravel. It doesn’t look like they will lose their title of the best club side in Europe and the world any time soon.

His philosophy and beliefs are so ingrained that he has built an approach that has been used by so many. That is exactly what he was known for in Spain, for having the ball and dictating it to the final minute.

When he went to City a lot of people thought he would change but he kept the same mindset to achieve his goal. I always knew it was very important for him to show us all again that he would win the UCL but this time with the super-talented squad at City. He had the money but you still need to find the talent, and when you have all the talent the question becomes can you turn it into a team.

This is exactly what he achieved again. He made them into a team that believed and played like they could beat anyone. #mmlove
