USA have now won three regional titles in a row, picking up their second CONCACAF Nations League after also winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Canada have been closing the gap on their rivals south of the border, qualifying for the World Cup last year and with players like Alphonso Davies making it on the big stage in Europe. “We’re closing gaps,” said Canada’s head coach John Herdman, who had taken them to their first final in 23 years.

“It was quite a chess match tonight,” said USA coach B.J. Callaghan, which is a credit to the hard work Canada have been putting in. But it was USA’s night of glory, and a key to their success was making sure Alphonso Davies was closed down and squeezed out the game by two or sometimes even three defenders. Folarin Balogun scored his first goal in a USA shirt after Gio Reyna’s corner kick was headed in by Chris Richards in the 12th minute, leading to the 2-0 victory.

USA had crushed Mexico 3-0 in the semi-final too, which was one of the most dominant performances in that tie for some years. They are at the top of the tree in CONCACAF and hoping to build on their recent success as the MLS grows and their next goal will be to get more success in the World Cup, which they are hosting with Canada and Mexico in 2026.

The squad has a World Cup under their belts and a few trophies now, and it’s exciting times to see how much they can continue to grow. #mmlove
