We’re halfway to finding out who will face off in the Champions League quarter-finals and its shaping up to be another competitive tournament.
The four teams that have qualified so far are four of the biggest clubs in Europe and predicting who will make it through to the semi-finals isn’t an easy task.
Man City were dominant over the two legs against Copenhagen, with two 3-1 victories making the aggregate 6-2 win. It didn’t look like they were ever in danger of losing this one.
One of the most interesting stats was Haaland’s 41st Champions League goal is now equal to Aguero’s tally in the competition. Aguero is of course one of the best forwards in the past decade so to see Haaland equal that record already is an amazing feat.
Real Madrid’s journey into the final eight was not as plan sailing, with Leipzig piling on the pressure late on. It felt like Madrid were beatable here, especially with the freedom they gave Leipzig’s midfielders by not keeping tight like their normal style of play. But they got the job done in the end. Vinicius Junior who ws lucky to finish the game and Jude Bellingham combined for the goal that saw Madrid go through.
Bayern are also through, beating Lazio 3-0 at home to overturn the 1-0 defeat on the first leg in Italy. Bayern have been dominant in the Bundesliga for a long time but it looks like they may miss out on the domestic title to Leverkusen this time. That means they have a point to prove in Europe and Harry Kane is looking for his first trophy.
PSG are the final team through right now, another side that have been so dominant in their domestic league but with something to prove in Europe. Mbappe is leaving in the summer and PSG would probably be considered an outsider at this stage but we know the owners are desperate for European silverware.
All the remaining games have everything to play for with the scores even or just one goal to separate the teams. Arsenal vs Porto is one of the most interesting ties with Arsenal needing to come back from their 1-0 defeat in the first leg vs Porto.
PSV who are Holland’s best team in the league are the other big underdog who are travelling to Dortmund to see if they can make it through.
