It has been 10 years since Inter Milan won the Serie A title. It was Jose Mourinho’s second and final season with the club, and it was one that went down in the history books. They won the league title for a 5th consecutive time, won the Coppa Italia and also lifted the Champions League trophy for the first time in 45 years.
It’s the only time an Italian club has won the treble, and it marked the end of Inter’s most consistently successful period as a football team. Jose Mourinho left for Real Madrid, and while Inter did win the Copa Italia and finish second in the league the following season, they have not won a trophy since and have struggled in the league.
Last season Inter finished second behind Juve who have dominated and won the title every season since Inter last won it, but this year Inter have their best chance of reclaiming their champions status.
At the weekend Lautaro Martinez headed a late winner against Torino to move nine points clear at the top of the table, with 11 games left to play. We all know it’s not over until it’s over, especially when you have Juventus and a man like Cristiano Ronaldo chasing, as well as the likes of Ibrahimovic and AC Milan. Inter’s two biggest rivals will not be giving up any time soon so Conte will be focusing on one game at a time as they try to maintain their lead.
Sometimes as a player or manager you move to another country or go back home and it can backfire. Conte had some pressure when he arrived at Inter because it was the job after Chelsea, and he had a point to prove in Serie A.
He didn’t take long to make sure he went to a team that was ready to build a great side and approach the right players. He quickly went after Lukaku to make sure he could convince him to make a move to Italy from a place that he had been calling home for many years.
Lukaku arrived in Italy and didn’t look back. He just made sure he kept hitting the net and that is what he has been doing ever since the move. You can see how much he has grown as a player again, and the move clearly lifted his hunger, now making sure he always keeps on creating a hard time for defenders.
We know what he had done at Everton and what he was working hard to do at Man Utd, but now he has the confidence and the team that understand him so well that they will do what it takes to make sure he can make use of his strength, pace and goalscoring ability in every game.
Lukaku is pushed on my another player that is doing so will in his own right, who goes by the name Lautaro Martinez. I am sure that Conte is happy it didn’t take too long for the two to understand each other well, and they both keep on rising. #mmlove
