There are just a couple of games left for each team to play in the Premier League this season and the battle for the Champions League places is as close as it could be. Liverpool are breathing down the necks of Man Utd and Newcastle, just a point behind now after winning each of their last seven games.

Liverpool scored two goals in quick succession to take a 2-0 lead against Leicester, before Alexander-Arnold capped off the win with a great freekick in the second-half. The 3-0 win puts the pressure on Newcastle and Man Utd, and most would say they are likely to win their last two matches against Aston Villa and already relegated Southampton. If they do, that would put them on 71 points at the end of the season, so Man Utd and Newcastle will both be looking at that and thinking they need to win two of their last three games to get a spot in the Champions League.

Newcastle’s next game against Brighton will be huge as Brighton are also fighting for a European spot and are not easy to beat. If Newcastle win that will give them the momentum to go on and win one of their final two games, but if they lose it will put all the pressure on to get two results in their last two games against Leicester and Chelsea.

Man Utd face Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham, which are more comfortable games and most would expect them to get at least two wins. All of their opponents have got nothing left to play for this season which can be a factor, and unless they do slip up in a big way you would expect to see them playing Champions League football next season. That can happen though as this season has already been full of so many surprises.

It’s time to grab the popcorn because we’ve got an exciting finale on our hands.
