Newcastle United moved up to third in the table after their 4-1 win over Southampton at the weekend, and you have to say they deserve to be up there.

The Magpies have conceded just 11 goals this season meaning they have the joint best defence with Arsenal, but possibly the most interesting thing about this team is their man of the moment, Miguel Almiron.

Almiron scored 9 goals in his first two seasons at Newcastle, but is already up to 8 this season after hitting the net 7 times in his last 7 games.

Haaland has been grabbing most of the weekly headlines but Almiron is full of confidence and few would bet against him scoring again on any week. He took his chance well against Southampton with a neat finish. He has become on of those players who expect to score when he gets his chance and that’s what happens when confidence is high.

He’s the key man for Newcastle at the moment with the most shots, goals and touches in the opponent’s box compared to his teammates, and he’s becoming the on they look to for a goal. So far they’re dealing with what’s put in front of them and we’ll see how they stack up at the halfway point in the season before the World Cup.

The most interesting thing about Almiron is how well he played in the MLS and came to do the same in the Premier league. He had the spotlight on him in producing but had moments of playing against himself. But now he has settled in so well and has his groove back, feeling and playing full of confidence.

I am super happy we get to see the quality of a player that left USA with so much joy and his goal is in creating the same at Newcastle. The biggest thing for him is fitness after and during the World Cup. Also, in how long he will keep this form going as player that has been playing this will before.

Every Newcastle fan would take being in the top four if you’d asked them at the start of the season. It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens after the World Cup as it will feel like a new season after the break, but any team in the top 6 that picks up where they left off will have the advantage. #mmlove
