When you look at the Premier League table after 10 games, one of the biggest things that stands out is Nottingham Forest in third position. This is a team that had been absent from the top flight for 23 years until last season.
Forest have lost just one of their opening 10 games, conceding just 7 goals which can only be topped by Liverpool who have conceded six. It’s their highest position since 1998 after winning three games in a row in the top flight for the first time since 1999.
When Nuno Espirito Santo took over from Cooper he made them more compact and solid in defence, setting up to use their pace for quick transitions.
This has allowed their man Chris Wood to become one of the key players so far, scoring 8 goals. Nuno will be very pleased with that, and the foundations at the back keeping the defence tight is working so far.
The 3-0 win over West Ham at the weekend meant Forest leapfrogged Arsenal in the table. And yes that’s the Arsenal team that we have talked about trying to beat City to the title. Callum Hudson-Odoi grabbed his first goal at home this season to build on Wood’s brace. the 3-0 scoreline was Forest’s biggest win in the Premier League since 1996.
It will be very interesting to see how their season plays out and if they can keep the momentum going from here. It would be crazy to draw any comparisons to the Leicester team that went on to win the title, but its still an exciting time at the club who were once giants of Europe winning the European Cup twice in the late 70s.
The goal at the start of the season won’t have been to get European football, but for now the table looks pretty and they can dream. #mmlove
