The Champions League final is set after another entertaining round in the competition that seems to always deliver on the entertainment.
Dortmund crushed Mbappe’s last chance of winning the trophy with PSG with a 1-0 win in Paris that saw an impressive defensive display. Dortmund defended like their lives depended on it and they probably had more than their fair share of luck too with PSG hitting the woodwork six times. Somehow they never got on the scoresheet and Mats Hummels headed goal was all it look for Dortmund to secure their place in the final.
Hummels was the deserved man of the match, as he was in Germany in the first leg, and he was instrumental in Dortmund making it to their first final since 2013.
Now they’re searching for their second Champions League title, adding to their cabinet with the last being in 1997 when they beat Juventus when I was a young Ajax player hoping to make it to professional football while micing school and my football dream.
They will face Real Madrid, as Carlo Ancelotti becomes the first manager to reach 6 Champions League finals. I know you need a bit of luck, but getting to the final that many times shows how great of a manager he is. You could see how happy the players were just playing for him, and that says it all. He’s one of the best at handling stars including the up-and-coming ones and that makes him special.
Real did what they always seem to do, coming back from behind late on with two goals from Joselu, one in the 88th and 91st minute of the match.
It wasn’t without some late controversy however, as Bayern were denied what looked like an equaliser deep into injury time when De Ligt scored a half-volley. The linesman even apologised and Tuchel after the game said “It’s a disaster. Tough to swallow.”
In the end it was Madrid’s night and the classic comeback means they will meet Dortmund at Wembley fon June 1st.
