The Women’s World Cup kicks off next week in Australia and New Zealand, and it’s the first to mirror the men’s tournament with 32 teams competing across eight groups.
The USA are the team to beat as the defending champions, and they are looking to become the first team in the competition’s history to win the tournament three times in a row.
Australia have the home advantage as co-hosts, and being led by Sam Kerr will be hoping to go all the way and knock the USA of their perch. While England will be confident after their success at Euro 2022 last year where they won the tournament for the first time.
Frand and Brazil are both strong too, as they are in men’s football, and Germany are another favourite who could go all the way.
World Cups are celebrations of football and it will be great to see the coverage of the women’s game on the biggest stage. The fanbase of the women’s game is always growing and it’s great to see more teams competing at the tournament too, as that shows the game is developing in more countries around the world. More and more will be tuning in to watch the games on TV and there is a lot of spirit and support for each country by their nations.
As with any tournament, there will no doubt be some surprises along the way. #mmlove
