Man Utd have been described as sleeping giants in recent years. Still one of the biggest clubs in world football the team has had a period with less success than they are used to, but you would have to say Ten Hag has got them moving and they are now definitely awake!
Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs have all been beaten at Old Trafford this season, but the weekend’s victory over their manchester rivals was the biggest statement of the season. It must have been a painful few years for United fans seeing City rise to Premier League success again and again, but this time its they who have the bragging rights in Manchester.
United had lost their way and tried so many different managers, but the Ten Hag has done an amazing job so far and the club is finding its feet again. He brought the discipline that was missing United held on by playing the attacking football Ten Hag learned to play at Ajax, after playing a more defensive style that wasn’t expected in Holland.
It was s controversial goal that helped United take the lead, with Bruno Fernandes taking the ball away from Rashford’s run, when Rashford had been clearly offside but not deemed to be affecting play. It’s not normal to see the ball being left by a player that is running so close to it, letting another player take the advantage of offside.
But the way United played means there is reason for optimism around Old Trafford. There still might be more improvement needed but they’re hot on City’s heels in third place, and any United fan would have taken that at this stage in the season if you had asked them before the season kicked off.
Ten Hag has at the very least got United moving in the right direction, and even if they don’t challenge for the title this season, we can expect more to come under his tenure because the Champions League spot was a must for him from the start. #mmlove
