There’s a lot at stake on Saturday when Manchester United and Manchester City face each other in the FA Cup final. Man City secured the Premier League title for the fifth time in six years after successfully putting the pressure on and overtaking Arsenal. Meanwhile Man Utd won the League Cup, meaning as well as bragging rights in the city of Manchester, the winners will be claiming a domestic double.
As well as their own glory, Man Utd’s will also want to stop their local rivals from having a chance of winning the treble. United are famously the only English team to hold a treble, when they won it in 1999, and Man City have the opportunity to become the second team to do so if they can beat United in the FA Cup final and then Inter in the Champions League final a week later.
The odds will be in Man City’s favour as they have been so dominant this season. For the United fans, you get the feeling that stopping City is almost as important as winning the double for themselves.
City would become only the 10th team in Europe to win three trophies in a season, while the double for either team is also a big achievement with only eight clubs achieving the feat.
Ten Haag has said: “We will give everything and, when I say everything, it’s everything… the fans can rely on that.”
Man Utd know that they’ve got the claim of being the only treble winners and don’t want to lose that. Having lived in Manchester for 3 years I could see how superior Man Utd felt, and were at that time, and Man City will always remember that so if they lose the FA Cup it will be an even harder pill to swallow for them.
The football Man City play is great to watch but even they could be surprised on the day by not being as productive and joyful as they have been this season. I am looking forward to watching both finals and seeing if Man City can get the treble.
It will hopefully be an exciting game as we see the first Manchester Derby FA Cup final. #mmlove
