Frustrations boiled over after Liverpool’s last gasp winner against Leicester at the weekend, with the Foxes feeling they would have deserved a point from a hard-fought game against the Reds. It was the closest Liverpool have come to dropping points in the Premier League this season, but Milner’s penalty ensured Klopp maintains his flawless start. It’s not the first time Liverpool have clinched victory with a late goal this season, and in the Premier League era they have scored more injury-time winners than any other side. Most people would probably expect Man Utd to hold that record thanks to the famous Fergie Time, but Liverpool have scored 12 more winning goals in the 90th minute or later since the Premier League began. Some would say that makes them the luckiest team, but it’s a lot more than luck. It’s more about working hard and pressing for a goal up to the final seconds of any match, and Liverpool have shown that it pays off several times already this season alone. The result against Leicester put Liverpool eight points clear at the top, with Man City to play Wolves the next day. Man City’s defence has been weakened due to injury and looked vulnerable when Wolves were on the attack. Nuno did a brave thing and also smart for pushing Adam Traore forward so he could hit man city who is weak at the back right now on a perfect counter-attack. When Nuno Made his move I looked at the time and thought he is a man with a plan and is going for the win. Adama Traore had scored just once in the Premier League when he stepped out at the Etihad, but here he scored a brace to secure all three points for Wolves and subject Pep to his second defeat of the season. It meant at full-time the gap was still eight points. There’s a very long way to go and Man City still have to play Liverpool twice. City can still chase the title but we all know what the key moments are in the season and that’s December and January. Those are the ones where Liverpool can create more daylight between themselves and their rivals, or their rivals might catch up. Man City has not always looked great this season and more teams will start thinking they can catch them. Now it will be up to Pep and his men to show character and intelligence to prove all the doubters wrong. He has the squad but I am worried that they don’t have that same level of motivation they had last season. Liverpool on the other hand are really focused on staying on track to win the title. #mmlove |
