It is the start of a new chapter at Liverpool Football Club after Jurgen Klopp’s departure after 9 years at the helm.

The new man in charge is Arne Slot who comes with some achievements that make him an interesting manager for Liverpool.

His career in Holland has seen him take Feyenoord to the Europa League final in his first season there, where his team were beaten by Mourinho’s Roma to miss out on the trophy, but it was a great achievement for a team that had finished 5th in the league in the previous season and was in transition. Besides just missing out on European success, Feyenoord also finished third in the league behind Ajax and PSV.

In his second season Slot took the team one step further and won the Eredivisie, the club’s first league title since 2016. He also earned Feyenoord their biggest win in European football since 1995 with a 7-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk. This game also marked his 15th win in European football, which is the most by any manager in Feyenoord’s history.

They also made it to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where it was Roma who beat them again. This most recent season also saw Feyenoord beaten by Roma for the third season in a row to knock them out of European competition.

Slot could only finish second in the league behind PSV in his final season, where he still managed to win the Dutch cup, but it was a great three years at the club that has seen many people say he is one of Feyenoord’s greatest managers. This was seen not just from the results of matches, but how he got the most out of his players with a relatively small transfer budget, and changed Feyenoord’s finances with their European successes. The football itself was attacking and attractive too, which will fit nicely with Liverpool’s culture and the fans expectations.

I’m excited to see how Arne can work with the Liverpool team and what kind of impact he can have on the Premier League this season. It will be more than a step up in terms of the competition he will be facing as the Premier League is so competitive now, but time will tell how well Liverpool and Slot’s tactics and creativity will be tested by the likes of Pep and Arteta. #mmlove
