Liverpool enter the weekend as Premier League leaders after their 2-1 win over Chelsea last weekend.

Man City had scored a last-minute winner to briefly jump ahead Liverpool in the table, and it meant on Sunday Arsne Slot’s team would need all three points to reclaim their place at the top.

Slot said that this was the biggest test for Liverpool yet, but it was a test that they passed with a Salah penalty and Curtis Jones’ goal giving them the win. There were a few key moments in the game that could have had a big impact had they gone another way, for example, Adarabioyo avoided a red card for a foul on Diogo Jota which was quite similar to Saliba’s foul on Saturday for Arsenal, that did result in a sending off.

Then there were four penalty calls in the game, with just one being given to Liverpool and others being overturned by VAR, but with these fine margins if calls had gone the other way the game could have been very different.

Chelsea didn’t earn any points, but Maresca can take plenty from the game – the Blues had plenty of possession and chances, and after the game, he said: “I don’t think this game defines where we are. We prepared in the best way, it worked quite well. You have to take chances, but overall I am very happy with the players.”

The defeat for Chelsea means they are now 7 points behind Liverpool, but very much in the battle for Champions League places. It is tight with six points separating Arsenal in 3rd and Man Utd in 12th, so we can expect to see some big changes in the standings over the next few weeks.

Now it’s back to the Premier League after all 4 English sides won their European games.

Knowing that Newcastle are a building team just like Chelsea’s it will be interesting how this game plays out, as I think Chelsea are moving slightly ahead. But the weekend’s big game is of course Arsenal vs Liverpool. A Liverpool team full of confidence and an Arsenal team that is looking to get their confidence back after their loss against Bournemouth.

I will have my eyes on this one for sure from the beginning to the end. #mmlove
