With Euros and Copa America concluded, and the new football season just a few weeks away, it’s time for everyone in the football world to turn their attention to the transfer market.
We’ve already seen some big transfers, with the biggest of all being Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid. We’ve also seen this transfer slowly develop over the past couple of years and its now official. It has been Mbappe’s dream since he was a kid, and he even said he took Spanish lessons while he was at school because he imagined he would one day play for Real.
He was welcomed to the Bernabeu to a sell-out crowd for his unveiling, and his shirt sales have reportedly broken records and fans are having to wait to get their shirt with his name on the back.
Madrid’s line-up for next season look almost unfair on paper, with Endrick also joining from Brazil, and there are rumours of an Alphonso Davies transfer too. Real Madrid have been by far the most successful team in the Champions League in recent years and they will be a favourite to win it again this coming season. The fans will be full of joy watching them but will also put some pressure on with the expectation levels.
Another Brazilian to make a move is Savinho who has joined Man City from Troyes. Pep has described him as devastating in 1 v 1s and he helped Girona qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history on his loan deal to Spain last season.
Last season there were enough games where defenders doubled up in trying to stop him. He is direct and if he gets the same confidence I saw in him last season City have got themselves another interesting player. He adds to Man City’s attacking options and could become a key part of the team this season.
Other big transfers have been Man Utd’s purchase of Lenny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee showing their ambition to build out a team with youthful talent, rather than relying on experienced players, some of which have made underwhelming signings for United in recent years.
Italian defender Calafiori is close to joining Arsenal after they shook off competition from Juventus and Real Madrid, and he would be a great signing for Arteta, bolstering the defence. He can play at centre-back or left-back and could be a key player in the setup at Arsenal if they can get the deal over the line.
They already had one of the best defences last season so adding Calafiori will cover if there are any surprise moments in the defence. It will also push the level up for the players at Arsenal who will fighting to keep their position in the team.
I’m sure there will be many more exciting movements in the coming weeks as the teams around Europe prepare for the new season.
