Real Madrid are the Champions of Europe for the 15th time after their 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final at Wembley. And they will be many people’s favourites again next season with a few new arrivals including Kylian Mbappe.
Toni Kroos half-joked after the win that the difference between Real Madrid and his former club Bayern Munich was that Real don’t lose finals. He said it with a smile but Real have been so dominant in Europe and its not something built into the culture.
They are of course one of the biggest clubs on the planet and expectations are always super high, but its still incredible how they keep on winning this trophy.
It was Toni Kroos last ever game for real, and he will be retiring after Euro 2024 this summer. He won a total of 21 trophies with Real, including 5 Champions league medals after this weekend, plus the La Liga title in his last season.
And the next generation of players coming through means Real are absolutely not slowing down. Vini Jr was voted Champions League player of the season, and Jude Bellingham was voted best young player. These two are already at the top of the game and have so many years ahead of them, and the arrival of Mbappe is a scary proposition for any defence.
Carlo Ancelotti is the most successful manager in Champions League history and you wouldn’t be surprised if he made it 6 trophies this time next year.
This team is full of talent and I know the pressure to perform will be there from the start of next season with the arrival of Mbappe.
The pressure to win trophies will be even bigger with the new talents in the team, but this is a club that only brings in players that can handle and want to live in the atmosphere of pressure, because easy doesn’t assist them. #mmlove
