Erling Haaland has exploded onto the world stage in the past couple of years and is now undoubtedly one of the most exciting players in the game.
The 6’4 teenager still has many areas that he will be able to improve with hard work and experience, but his pace, strength and finishing already make him a nightmare for defenders. Sometimes it looks like he is playing against kids younger than him, and this was the case when he scored a hat-trick in just 18 minutes on his Dortmund debut after coming on as a second-half sub.
This was after he scored a hat-trick on his Champions League debut earlier in the season while still at Salzburg. He became the first teenager to score in five consecutive Champions League games, and this is what put him on the map as a player to keep an eye on.
Haaland was born in Leeds when his father was playing for Leeds United, before he moved to play for Man City. He says he is a Leeds fan and that his dream would be to win the Premier League with Leeds. But for now his focus is in Dortmund and his record currently sits at 13 goals in 12 games for his new club.
The Bundesliga has resumed and Dortmund lead the chasing pack, four points behind Bayern at the top of the table. In the Champions League, Haaland scored a brace against PSG in their first leg of the last 16, which led to the whole PSG squad mocking his celebration in the second leg when they came back to go through on aggregate.
If anything this only showed how much the teenager had upset them his brace in the first leg, and Haaland said “I think they helped me a lot to get meditation out in the world and to show the whole world that meditation is an important thing so I’m thankful that they helped me with that.”
His interviews have earned some attention due to his short answers and the way he seems like he is not interested in being interviewed. This is unusual for young footballers, but he says it’s because all he wants to do is play football and he is not interested in the other sides of the game.
It shows that he is not as interested in the fame, all he wants to do is play and score goals. This is a player that I will keep watching closely because I want to see him grow even more. He has the confidence and belief in himself that some players get later.
When you possess that feeling that early you will be exceptional, and should keep us entertained for a long time. #mmlove
