It will be a very interesting game on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Jose Mourinho manages Spurs against his former club. Frank Lampard’s Chelsea did have a 12 point gap over Spurs but after a tough spell with just one win in five games, Spurs have the chance to leapfrog Chelsea into fourth place if they take all three points. Chelsea’s problems have mainly been going forward in the last few games. The blues had 67% possession against Bournemouth but there was no breakthrough, and a late goal from Dan Gosling stunned Chelsea. The teams that have been doing well against Chelsea have all deployed tight defences, and Lampard will hope to see more creativity in the final third to break down Spurs at the weekend. One of the biggest goals for Lampard will be to get Tammy Abraham back to his early-season form. Tammy has become the key figure in the Chelsea side and I am sure Mourinho will do whatever he can to stop him from scoring. It will be a good test again for Tammy because Mourinho will say to his players let’s teach these young boys a lesson. Put them under pressure and don’t give them time to think. The hosts have had a resurgence under Jose Mourinho, with a last gasp goal from Vertonghen clinching three points against a tough Wolves side last weekend. It’s not an easy task sweeping into a new club midway through a season with little time on the training pitch to put your philosophy and systems in place, but Mourinho has had an immediate impact at Spurs. His goal is to turn his team into a group of winners, and they showed that against Wolves grabbing the late goal. It will be a game where Mourinho will try to outsmart Lampard. He still has the mentality of wanting to teach his student a lesson. If Lampard explains and uses his experience of the high pressing game, Mourinho will bring all he can to make Spurs are ready. If they don’t they will be losing control of the game very quickly and Mourinho will try to win the game. I still think an in form and well prepared Chelsea will take all three points. But If they don’t do their homework, Mourinho will outsmart Chelsea for sure. #mmlove |
